Must-haves for Fall/Winter 2012

As a poor entrepreneur, I’ve been trying to not spend these past few months. Apologies for promising to post more and then not — simply looking through J.Crew was too much temptation. Still, just over the last month, I’ve managed to have seen a whole slew of things I’m now uncontrollably obsessed with and need to have at all cost. Sigh! Here they are.

J.Crew Icon Trench in Wool-Cashmere – Cabernet – $325

J.Crew’s 25% off outerwear sale brought me back to the site. I tried to quickly scroll through and conclude nothing looked too tempting, but I literally gasped when I saw this trench. How stunning is this color? The saturation is beautiful, and is topped off by a great contrast between the dark red and the black buttons. I was instantly in love. I own last season’s Icon Trench in Wool-Cashmere in a color similar to this year’s Heather Acorn, and the fit is beautiful. I’ve received countless compliments on it, so I knew this one would fit beautifully as well. I was dying to have it — went to add to my cart and realized it was sold out in all sizes. I called J.Crew and they said, yup, gone and no chance of restock. What?!?!! Damn you, J.Crew. Apparently it was released back in August and already snatched up. I was being punished for my self-imposed J.Crew ban. Damn it. If you love this too, let’s all make our daily check-in here.

OR maybe I’ll settle for another similarly dark-red (and beautiful) coat from Burberry? Ha, right, it’s only like 6 times the cost.

Burberry – Sprayed Check Coat – $1,495

J.Crew Lady Jacket in Double Serge Wool – Heather Carbon – $198 (from $258)

This caught my eye while I was flipping through the J.Crew catalog (yes, might as well embrace my addiction). It definitely has that Chanel-vibe, and I love the contrast between the gold buttons and the dark color. The only thing I hesitate on is I’m not quite envisioning what I’d wear this with in real life, since I’m not the terribly skinny, long-legged chick this model is and I can’t pull off a blazer with just leggings…would it look weird with jeans? What color jeans? I’d have to find an inner shirt long enough to pull off this look. Would it look weird with a skirt? Not sure. Love it in the Berry Pink color below too, and clearly she pulls it off very well with just jeans!

Michael Kors Gold Camille Chronograph Watch – $250

I’m obsessed with this watch. Its normal product photos don’t do it any justice, but it looks AMAZING in this lifestyle shot. I love that unlike Michael Kors’ typical ubiquitous gold watches, there’s a more demure white watch face that contrasts beautifully with the gold band. Best of all, I love the roman numerals — not just one for the 12 o’clock mark but for all the times. Is my obsession somewhat fueled by my previous obsession with the all-too-similar Cartier Ballon Bleu in Pink Gold (below)? Yes, I’ll admit it. It’s true. But this Cartier watch is like $20,000 — that will never happen, so I will happily, happily settle for this Michael Kors watch.

Ghurka Cavalier Carry On Travel Bag – $995-$1,395

Drool. I must have this bag. Must. I need this bag. I think I’ve been looking for a bag like this for years — the perfect tan, amazing thick leather, in a casual, effortless-looking size, yet a functional size perfect for weekend getaways and as carry-on for longer trips. I’m obsessed. I’m also now obsessed with Ghurka. All of their bags look this amazing with every color looking amazing and classic at the same time. Comes in 3 different sizes, hence the price range, but my favorite is the medium size. And how cute is the matching Dopp Kit? Don’t know what a Dopp Kit is but it’s perfect for all your smaller travel accessories. Just a tad expensive though…

Ghurka Travel Dopp Kit – $350

Should I Get These? Hmm…

I’ve been experiencing quite a dry spell recently. For some reason I’ve lost a lot of my interest in clothing. In an effort to “get back on the horse” so to speak, I’ve been doing some online browsing and I found a few things I like. Am I pushing myself to like them because I want to like them or because they’re legitimately cute? You guys tell me.

J.Crew Sunnie Pencil Skirt – $128

Also loving the Marled Lambswool Apres Cardigan ($135) and Teal Flannel Boy Shirt ($72) shown.

Talbots Fair-Isle Flyaway Cardigan – $149

Talbots Fair-Isle Flyaway Cardigan
I’ve been seeing some rave reviews of Talbots, much like the fanfare Lands End Canvas received when they first launched. Very J.Crew-esque stuff. I’m not sure why I’ve always had the impression that they were geared towards older, more mature women, at least much more so than J.Crew. But today I checked it out and there are definitely some cute stuff…but quite pricey! $149 for a cardigan? Yikes.

Talbots Ruffle Plaid Blouse – $69.50

Talbots Windowpane Plaid Skirt – $109

Yup, I am a huge fan of red and black plaid. No idea why. So what do you guys think? Anyone try Talbots?

H&M Polka Dot Skirt

I haven’t been to a H&M store in years. I outgrew the whole phase of needing to be trendy so I’ll buy cheap items that last a handful of wears, but recently I’ve seen a lot of bloggers pick up some super cute pieces at dirt cheap prices, so of course I couldn’t resist checking out the 5th Ave store while waiting for a friend today. I wandered around and was not too surprised to see a lot of clothes that felt like super rough and poor quality, that I can just envision totally changing shape within a couple washes. Then I spotted this super cute, simple polka dotted skirt with a smocked waist. It was thin but not see-through thin, and only $9.95! I didn’t even bother trying it on, I bought it and left.

I’m wearing: H&M Basic Henley (similar here), Tory Burch Julianne Wedges

This skirt turned out to be cuter and more perfect than I imagined. The shape is a perfect A-line, which really accentuates and narrows the waist. The smocked waist is SUPER comfortable. The length is absolutely perfect, hitting me slightly at the knee. And the print is adorable! Very peasant-girlish and preppy. Here’s a shot with the shirt tucked in and belted:

The henley is only $9.95 from H&M as well and probably similar quality to the “tissue” material henleys J.Crew pumps out. Cheap outfit but cute, right? I love that the skirt is so flattering but so comfortable. I’m guessing it won’t work with tights for Fall/Winter because the material will cling onto tights, but while the weather isn’t too cold yet, I can wear them with my new Nine West Destry boots! Throw on my J.Crew Schoolboy Blazer and I will be comfy but cute. Love, love, love!

Anyone else discover great steals at H&M these days? Do share!
