J.Crew Bettina Cami

I think of the Bettina Cami from J.Crew as an easier-to-wear version of their silk ruffle camis.

I chose the Dried Rose color, even though I wanted to buy these in every color. I figured I would buy one just to test the waters first, then if I loved it, I’d decide which colors to buy next!

I’m wearing: J.Crew Equestrian Leather Belt, J.Crew Brushstroke Mini Skirt, Nine West Getby Wedges, J.Crew Glass Pools Bracelet

I got my usual size in J.Crew shirts – size 6 – and it fits relatively loosely. Perfect for tucking into skirts and looking put together without trying too hard. However, what’s up with the collar? It doesn’t really open up to showcase the ruffles; it’s more like the two flaps kind of just close in on your chest. I kept trying to push down the two sides but they kept closing back up. Still cute regardless, but this could bother people who expect it to come looking like the stock photo online.

Here’s another picture of the cami untucked; it hits below hip.

Best part of this cami? It looks dressy and will make you look put together without much effort, but has none of the high maintenance issues that come with all the other silk ruffle camis that provide the same type of look. It’s machine washable!!! Hooray! I’m eyeing Spicy Russet and Tuscan Olive next.

J.Crew Softspun Sunset Dress

The Softspun Sunset Dress from J.Crew appears to be the sister dress to the Softspun Sunrise Dress I posted yesterday. Identical material, identical description. So how does it compare?

J.Crew Softspun Sunset Dress

Despite being the same material, this dress felt a bit more flimsy to me than the Sunrise dress. Perhaps because the Sunrise dress was a bit more fitted and fit closer to the body from the empire waist down, whereas this one gives a lot more room. Because of that, this dress looks more like a casual dress and lacks the versatility to be dressed up like the Sunrise. This dress can also tend to give more of the pregnancy look you risk with many empire-waist dresses because of the amount of room and material you get below the empire waist. I’m wearing a Small and it fits comfortably, so it’s not a sizing issue either…

I don’t think it looks nearly as flattering on as the Sunrise dress, but it is definitely a cute little throw-it-on-and-go dress, so I would probably keep it if it weren’t for the fact that this dress looks uncannily similar to the Soft Jersey Sara dress from Fall of 08, which I already own…

They look to be practically identical on me, so alas, this dress is not a keeper for me.

J.Crew Softspun Sunrise Dress

The new Softspun Sunrise Dress from J.Crew looks to be a cute little dress – comfortable, flattering, and versatile enough to be dressed up or down.

In real life, it is just as adorable. It’s super flattering to the bust line, with the detailing at the center drawing the eye. The color is also a great neutral that I think looks great with a cognac leather belt, some tights, and cognac-colored boots for fall/winter. This can pass for a more formal, business type dress, or throw on some sandals and go shopping. Love versatile dresses.

The length is great, the material is substantial but soft, and it’s probably one of the most versatile pieces you can own. What’s not to love?
