J.Crew Double Breasted Merino Cardigan

The Double Breasted Merino Cardigan is no longer on the site, but since items pop back up at JCrew.com all the time, I figure it wouldn’t hurt to post about it, especially since this apparently was not a popular item at all for J.Crew. My guess is because the whole double-breasted thing is kind of unusual on a sweater and probably a foreign concept to many.

J.Crew Double Breasted Merino Cardigan

I liked it from the very beginning. It looks slouchy and unique. I never pulled the trigger because I had theorized that it would eventually go on sale from lack of popularity/sales. When it finally dropped to $29, I snagged it. My original thought was, this would be great for those days when I’m wearing a more fitted top that may reveal that relatively small but still existent lower stomach pouch of fat that all of us women unfortunately deal with. The double breasted aspect of the cardigan would help cover that up.

I’m wearing: Anthropologie Coil Flower Tank, Banana Republic Pique Skirt, Gucci Grease Platform Sandals (Similar here)

And it does do that, especially since it’s black. However, after wearing it for the day, my worst fear came true and it instead felt like the cross-over double breasted part was accentuating that area rather than hiding it. It formed almost like a small band around it. I immediately regretted getting a Small, my usual top size, because this kind of sweater is meant to be slouchy and Medium would’ve fit that bill much better. But there’s a silver lining. It looks just like a regular, long, fitted cardigan when unbuttoned!

I already have way too many black cardigans, but at least I know that one of these days, when the problem area *goes away*, I’ll have a multi-functional cardigan. Plus, I just love J.Crew’s merino sweaters. They drape so well and they’re so comfy. All in all, I recommend this sweater if you size up or if you have zero body issues. Nine West Getby Wedges

Okay, by now you’ve all seen me wear my Nine West Getby wedges to death. Nine West has almost never failed me in terms of the combination of style and comfort. These wedges look very sexy, but with an uber comfortable, cushiony sky high wedge. The great cushioning, in addition to the fact that the platform makes this wedge more like a 3″ heel (feels less than that, in fact), makes these my go-to and walk-everywhere sandals of the summer.

The leather is very pebbly and soft; does not look like they will rub at your feet anytime soon. These wedges are also very light so you’re definitely not clunking around. I almost never purchase any shoes in more than one color but it’s just so rare to find something this cute and this comfortable, so I had to stock up. If they had my size in all the other colors, I’d probably buy them too…

I’m wearing: Hanes Basic Tank, J.Crew Forever Cardigan, J.Crew Skirt (circa 2005!!)

Now there is just one caveat to this rave review. Though frankly I’m completely in love with the muted dark gold color, more so than the black (it’s just not as “summery”), the gold is a synthetic leather. I know, I was very surprised to see this on the shoe especially since Piperlime (where I purchased them from) stated they were 100% leather. However, I’ve worn the gold around and I don’t think I can feel the difference. I’m not sure whether the non-leather will hold up the same as the leather over time, but guess we shall see. $79 is way too much to pay for synthetic leather but I just can’t resist something this cute and this comfortable. J.Crew Vintage Cotton Tuxedo Henley

The new Vintage Cotton Tuxedo Henley from J.Crew is now one of my favorite items in my closet. First of all, I love J.Crew’s slub cotton. It’s always so breezy, the fit is always slightly slouchy but not enough that it looks sloppy and unfitted, and it’s super soft and comfortable. Everything I own in their slub cotton looks flattering on me and become my go-to staples. This Tuxedo Henley takes a go-to basic staple and kicks it up a notch – it adds the henley style, which I’ve always found subtly sexy, plus feminine ruffles.

J.Crew Vintage Cotton Tuxedo Henley - Orchid Shadow

I couldn’t resist. Especially in the gorgeous new Orchid Shadow color. This will look great with everything.

I’m wearing: Banana Republic Pique Pencil Skirt, Nine West Getby Wedges

I got my usual size and it fits perfectly. I was hesitant to unbutton more than the first button as the 2nd button right by the top of my bra. Maybe if I was feeling a little frisky and I was wearing these sky wedges so I know not many people can see down my shirt…Anyway, I’m genuinely contemplating living in the tee + pencil skirt + comfy wedges outfit every day this summer. So comfortable yet still looks put together. I highly recommend the Vintage Cotton Tuxedo Henley, though the price definitely holds me back from stocking up in every color. Get it here from J.Crew for $39.50.

P.S. Anyone have any recommendations for a kick-ass camera to replace my clearly deteriorating one?
