The new Lands’ End Canvas Cotton Poplin Skirt is potentially one of the most classic and cutest skirts to wear for Spring. Having never purchased anything from Lands’ End, I was weary in placing my order but simply couldn’t resist the cuteness of the skirt. With their ubiquitous 20% off plus free shipping codes, I finally bit the bullet. My order arrived today. Verdict? I have found my new (other) love.

My first reaction to the Poplin skirt was that it felt very flimsy and unsubstantial. I had hoped it would be a thicker material. I pulled it up to my waist per the styling shown on the LE site, but it really wasn’t flattering. The A-line shape was there I guess, but it seemed so poofy and shapeless, adding unnecessary volume to my hips. I don’t have ginormous hips to begin with, so I wasn’t too upset with this but I wasn’t over the moon with it.

Then I thought, maybe the sheer whiteness of the skirt adds to the voluminous feel of this skirt. Maybe with the pattern skirt (I bought the True Navy Circles version), it wouldn’t look so puffy. I was partially right. Still the same complaints, but slightly reduced. I could imagine going out wearing this outfit. It wouldn’t be the cutest but it wasn’t ugly. The pattern definitely tamed the poofy feel down a notch.

I generally don’t wear tops tucked into skirts…mostly because I’m too lazy. I like to just throw on a top and go. Plus the tucked-in look is often too dressy for me; I’m much more of a casual girl in the spring/summer. So I pulled the tank top down over the skirt, threw on my new favorite belt from J.Crew, and voila! Cuteness to the max. The skirts took on an almost school girl pleated look. This I can wear out and feel pretty darn cute.
