J.Crew Canterbury Bells Pencil Skirt

The new Canterbury Bells Pencil Skirt from J.Crew is a definite keeper. It features the bold floral patterns seen everywhere this season, but with a twist – nowhere else have I seen this kind of floral print done with such an unique, piercing, uber saturated blue.

Clearly, even the J.Crew stylists thought this print was too pretty not to show off and paired it with nothing but a plain tee and nude heels. The blue isn’t printed on crisply, I think intentionally, so it’s almost like some of the blue is rubbing off into the white parts of the skirt, giving off a watercolor painting effect. Very unique and very pretty. Besides the print, my favorite part about this skirt is that just like with the Impressionist skirt, the Canterbury Bells Pencil Skirt is in the shorter 21″ length for the summer season. This means it will hit at your natural waist and not up your ribcage as with all their typical 24″ pencil skirts, and if you’re around average height, it will probably hit right above your knee (most flattering spot for a skirt to hit! …at least for me). The material is a cotton weave, and though it feels substantial and relatively thick, the skirt really moves with your body and is extremely comfortable. This and the Impressionist skirt have forever changed my opinion towards pencil skirts.

And again, it can do double duty as a very pretty floral faux mini if you decide not to tuck in your shirt.

I don’t know if it’s the fabric or the style of this and the Impressionist skirt, but I am really likin’ the way my butt looks in these two skirts. Usually there is *nothing* there but in these two skirts, I feel like I almost have a good solid butt there! All in all, I highly recommend this skirt, and there is pretty much nothing negative I can possibly say about it. Here’s a close up of the material:

J.Crew Impressionist Pencil Skirt

Best. Skirt. Ever.

I was totally on the fence about J.Crew’s Impressionist Pencil Skirt. The print looked potentially too bold and therefore slightly tacky, or maybe it was just the pairing with the washed denim and weird manly lumber boots that made me feel that way. I had hoped each skirt would have a different print, and that I wouldn’t get as much green/leafiness on the one I got.

When I got this beauty today, I was in love. It is STUNNING in person. I absolutely love the colors/print on mine. The colors are vibrant – it’s a guaranteed head turner – but very feminine and extremely pretty. The new 21″ length is absolutely perfect for someone with my figure and height (5’6″). It hits at the sweet spot otherwise known as right above my knee. I also don’t have to wear it right under the rib cage in order for the hem to fall at my knee; instead, I can wear it at my normal waist, which makes the skirt 100% times more comfy. Check out the length comparison with the 24″ Sunshine Peony Skirt. This fits me so well and is so flattering on me that I want to get every single 21″ length pencil skirt from J.Crew. Me, pencil skirts! That’s how amazing these are.

The fabric is soft and feels like it molds to your body, so it moves with you as well. Almost like there may be a hint of spandex in there. I don’t even know what else to say, except that for everyone on the fence about this skirt just from these pictures online, don’t hesitate and snag this beauty now! I have no idea why J.Crew would pair this amazing skirt with such ugly tops, but I think it kind of ruins the look and is perhaps the reason why I haven’t seen that much buzz about this skirt in the blogosphere.

Ugh, can it be any more perfect? I probably would normally wear a white plain tee with this skirt, just to defer all attention to this screamingly beautiful print. I think it even looks amazing with a shirt that’s not tucked in; it just looks like a floral mini skirt. That kind of versatility makes it like two gorgeous skirts for the price of one. How much more can you ask for from a skirt?

Shall I swoon more? I want to wear this skirt everywhere. I want to wear it now instead of my PJs. I want to wear it with heels and flip flops, to baseball games and to fancy schmancy dinners. Just looking at this beautiful print makes me happy. If anyone’s hesitating about purchasing this skirt right now, I really would not. I think any girl who sees this skirt in person will fall in love and it will sell out quickly. Snag it now from J.Crew here for $110 (worth every penny!).

Preview of What’s To Come

I know I didn’t actually purchase and post some of the items I put up in the last preview post, but I legitimately have all these items in boxes on their way to me via UPS, so here’s a sneak peek.

Love the print on this skirt. It’s bold and floral, which is huge this season. It’s an unusual saturated blue color, so it adds a slight twist to the trend. This will also be my first time trying on the new shorter 21″ length J.Crew has apparently instated for its skirts this summer. We shall see! Get it here from J.Crew for $98.

I’m a bit on the fence about this print. It seems really, really bright, to the point of slight tackiness. OR…it could be a bold, saturated floral pencil skirt, and you know how I’m a sucker for these floral prints. This is also in the new shorter 21″ length. Get it here from J.Crew for $110.

J.Crew Embroidered Zafrina Skirt

I got this skirt in the Bronzed Clay color. At first I just thought this skirt was cute, but once I zoomed in on the picture, I saw the delicate and very pretty sewing around the hem. Gorgeous! So feminine and detailed. Plus it seems very comfortable with the smocked waist, and should be flattering with the full A-line shape. The tassels are just the most adorable final touch. I absolutely adored this top when I saw it in the catalog. It doesn’t resemble anything I already own, but looks like something that will match and add interest to any outfit. The earthy vibe will go great with comfy full skirts and jeans. It screams summer to me! I am only loving it in the Champagne color, shown above. Get it here from J.Crew for $78.

J.Crew Giant Gingham Shirt

I literally felt like I was seeing this picture everywhere. Or maybe I’m just so subconsciously drawn to the sheer cuteness of this outfit that I kept getting drawn to it wherever I looked on J.Crew’s site. I don’t own a single dress shirt…mostly because they’re so uncomfortable for me in comparison to knits and I could never get my size right. However, I have a soft spot for cute and bold plaid, and the brown belt + black full skirt combo is one of my wardrobe staples that always looks good. So…I felt like I had to order this shirt and at least try it or I will forever be seeing this outfit everywhere and wondering whether it’d be cute on me. Get it here from J.Crew for $69.50.

J.Crew Printed Palmera Ruffle Cami

J.Crew Printed Palmera Ruffle Cami

J.Crew has come out with so, so many versions of this tank every season – usually with different types of prints or ruffles. I always thought they were cute and were tempted, but since I have the same issue with sizing with these dress tanks as I do with dress shirts, I’ve always been hesitant to order a random size blind online (and I’m just too lazy to try on in stores). However, this gorgeous tank is currently only $29.99 on sale online, so I thought it’s finally time to try it and see how I can work it into my wardrobe. Some blogs have reported that the ruffles look like a blob of shredded paper, which is ugh, but it doesn’t appear that way to me online so I guess we’ll see. Snag it on sale from J.Crew here for only $29.99 (down from $98!).

J.Crew Crystal Rock Bracelet

J.Crew Crystal Rock Bracelet

I fell for this ginormous-stoned necklace/bracelet when I first laid eyes on it in a J.Crew marketing email. I have not seen anything like it. It’s bold but feminine, kind of quietly and shyly screaming for attention. It’s a self-contradictory piece of jewelry, which adds a lot of interest to the piece for me. I’m not brave enough to put something this large on my neck, but it’s just enough of a statement on my wrist. For the relatively low sale price it’s at now, I had to snag it before it sells out. This is perhaps the piece I’m most excited about in my small J.Crew haul this time around. Get it here from J.Crew for $59.99.

Check back in a couple days as I report back!
